OFFICER AND COMMITTEE REPORTS

Regional Coordinators:

Regional Coordinators Curt Leonard (Western), Charlie Hildebrant (Central) and Fred Perkins (South Eastern) reported doing well.  Fred Perkins also reported that the South Eastern Region meets most Friday evenings at a local car show, or on Sunday afternoons at his shop.

Treasurers Report:

The Treasurer’s report for April 19, 2004 was read and approved by the body.

T- shirt Committee ( Bud Nelson)

Dick Deren reported on behalf of Bud Nelson that Bud now has the correct logo (which was voted on at the meeting at Lassie’s Restaurant), and he will handle the order.  It was discussed looking into also getting a logo patch made.  Karl Kahn, a friend of Fred’s and an employee of  the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, offered to assist in obtaining club shirts.  Karl handles official shirts for the County and can get pretty good prices on anything we want in the way of T-shirts or polo shirts, embroidered or silk screened.

No other reports were forth coming.

OLD BUSINESS

It was reported that the Bud Nelson Museum is coming along well, and should be available for the last quarter meeting in 2004

By law change proposals, which were made at the last meeting, were to be voted on at this meeting.

1) Motion to ad an Associate Member class of membership for businesses or other organizations.

Associate member will receive one vote, one copy of the newsletter, up to five ID badges, and one year’s business card ad in the newsletter. The fee will be $40 per year.  The motion was passed.

2) Motion to re-word section 2-1-B Family Membership,  for clarification purposes, was tabled due to the originator’s failure to provide the old wording of the section.

NEW BUSINESS

Member Frank Baltra advises that in the states of Texas and Oklahoma, privately owned antique military vehicles are not required to display a license tag. In Texas there is no charge for this type of licensing and in Oklahoma the fee is a one time $15.  In Florida, the fee is a one time fee of about $600, but you have to display the red horseless carriage tag.  Frank wants to take this case to Tallahassee and has asked for the support of the club and members.    Frank will do more research and prepare a letter for members to send to their Representatives in Tallahassee.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE CLUB

Monty Winget, President of one of  the MVPA Chapters  in Virginia,  was introduced.  He is temporarily stationed at MacDill AFB in Tampa, with the US Army at Central Command.

Michael Roberts gave a report on plans for the Wings ‘n Wheels Air & Military Vehicle Show at St. Lucie County Intl. Airport to be held on June 12th & 13th.  He asked for our support.  The show will provide meals for participating vehicle owners &  reenactors.   Frank Puglisi spoke on the Boot Camp kids that will be participating.  We can have a table to promote the FFC/MVPA.

Pierre Izarrie spoke on the upcoming D-Day events in Normandy, France, and answered questions.

Charlie Hildebrant showed the plaque that was made up for Life Member Bill Frederick.  The plaque will be presented to Bill in the near future.

Diane Deren d.deren@att.net ,  On-Line Schedule Co-Ordinator asked anyone who has not been getting updates, (currently we are on Update #100), to e-mail her with their correct e-mail address.

Earle Byers had copies of Bill Frederick’s book JUST JEEPS for sale.  FFC receives a portion of the profits - soft cover $20, and hard cover $30.

New member, John Phipps, wants to talk to other collectors who are interested in military radios. Call John on (239)242-0735 or e-mail K1KHP@earthlink.com.

After the meeting was adjourned at Fred Perkins’ Shop, a convoy traveled to SARAFAN Military Surplus Dealer in Miami for a tour of their  facility, and some GREAT shopping.  (even “dumpster diving” was observed.)

Many thanks to Fred Perkins for hosting a good meeting, providing a delicious lunch, and for making arrangements for a very exciting “field trip.”

Diane Deren, Secretary
